Based in San Francisco, Shankar focuses on venture capital investments in communication infrastructure systems and semiconductor components. He was involved with the JPMP venture investments in Valere Power and Belair Networks and is an observer on their boards. Shankar is also involved as an observer with JPMP portfolio companies Canesta and Portal Player. Prior to JPMP, he held various engineering and management positions at Applied Materials, Inc., a Silicon Valley semiconductor company from 1995 to 2000. As an Engineering Manager at Applied Materials, he ran product development operations and engineering activities for a $200M/year business unit. He has worked with several semiconductor companies worldwide and has been granted 5 patents related to semiconductor process technology.

Shankar holds an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, M.S in Materials Engineering from Arizona State University and a B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering from Institute of Technology, India.
